Ode To My Friends

I have a diamond ring
On a silver chain around my neck

I look down at it – and
See the faces of the girls I’ve met

It’s been a rough time,
It’s been a rough life

Staring at this ring for my future wife
Will I find my love tonight?

But for now I’ve got – Friends in fun places
Friends who run races
Guys who’ll hang with me when I’m down
I’ve got friends in fun places
Who’ll never get wasted
Who’ll laugh with me when they’re around

I have a wooden drawer
I drew an X and closed it tight

I see that drawer and
Remember all those awful nights

It’s been a rough time
Searching for the right kind

Looking at that drawer and thinking of you
Wishing one would have said I do
But for now I’ve got – Friends in fun places
Friends who run races
Guys who’ll hang with me when I’m down
I’ve got friends in fun places
Who’ll never get wasted
Who’ll laugh with me when they’re around

This is my ode to you and
All the new found friends I’ve met
And in these coming months - I
Hope to finally forget – that
It’s been so hard ya see
Looking for the girl for me
Though the future’s looking well
It’s too soon - I just can’t tell

But for now I’ve got – Friends in fun places
Friends who run races
Guys who’ll hang with me when I’m down
I’ve got friends in fun places
Who’ll never get wasted
Who’ll laugh with me when they’re around
